Farbod Shahinfar

I am a graduate student advised by Gianni Antichi at Polytechnic University of Milan (There is the Advanced Network Technologies Lab there).

My field of interest is computer systems, and I have mainly focused on the intersection of Operating Systems and data-center networks. More specifically, I have explored techniques to increase performance of networked applications, including network functions, virtual switches, and more complex applications such as key-value stores and web-servers.

In this path I have explored different paradigms including network bypass techniques (e.g., DPDK, AF_XPD), and OS kernel extension using eBPF. eBPF, has been a main part of my Ph.D. studies. Specifically, I wrote a paper on its strengths and shortcomings after failing to build a general system that automatically accelerates complex socket applications.

I received the NEC student fellowship after getting the best poster award at ACM CoNEXT 2021, which I'm very proud of :)
